SKILL DEVELOPMENT CAMP
For rowers who have completed the Learn to Scull and Novice programs or who have already rowed recreationally for one season. In Skill Development sessions, rowers will continue to develop their knowledge of the fundamentals of sculling, building on their rowing technique. They will gain a deeper understanding of boat skills, safety rules of the river, water behaviour, navigation and balance. Training will take place in flat, stable singles and advance to doubles. quads and in some cases elite singles.
Registration will be limited to 8 athletes.
*Basic rowing skills are expected. This is NOT a learn to row program.
. Perhaps it’s been a while since you had some specialized coaching! If you have never been in a single but you have rowing experience through summer or adult programs, this is your chance!
Program participants are welcome to bring their personal equipment.
SEASON: 2 WEEK SESSIONS M/T/TH 7:30-9AM
Time to…
GET BACK in the BOAT!
This is a light and fun way to re-enter rowing. This is not a test of skill or strength. It’s about getting together with like minded people for a casual weekend of fun in boats.
Skill requirement: This is not a beginner learn to row. It’s a refresher for scullers with previous experience. Students are able to adjust their equipment, launch, dock and row along with others. Those who can will bow a crew boat or single.
SESSION: May 31 & June 1 Saturday & Sunday 8-10:30AM
ADULT RECREATIONAL CREW age 18+
Sculling in Quad rowing shells
Note: This is not a Learn to Scull but a program for athletes with intermediate experience in sculling.
SUMMER 3 WEEK SESSIONS, 2 classes per week
EVENINGS: T & TH 6 - 7:30PM
RACE TRAINING CAMP
Training camps for intermediate to advanced level athletes.
Note: This is NOT a learn to scull program.
The race training camps are dedicated to skill development and all aspects of race training. Participants should be able to launch and row a single rowing shell and feel comfortable completing at least 60 minutes of steady state in a single practice. It is expected that the rower can maintain or will work to maintain boat speed with the rest of the crew. Acceptance into this program is at the discretion of the coach. All athletes enter this program with the knowledge and intention to attend all practices and regattas. Practices are generally 4 X per week , rain or shine.
WEDNESDAY RACE DAYS Summer - Fall Wednesdays 6 - 7:30AM
Coached Weekly Racing open to members, program registrants and non members, Intermediate – competitive skill level. Singles and team boat crews.
Wednesday Race Days are not appropriate for beginner scullers but you’ll get your chance very soon!
Whether you’re learning to race for the first time, training for a regatta or ramping up your workout routine this is the program for you.
Spring and summer is Sprint Racing. Head racing in fall.
Weekly pre-registration required.
PRIVATE TRAINING
INDOOR ROWING
1. The DWRA boathouse is not heated in winter months but can often be used for lessons.
2. Have your own rowing machine?
Private lessons in your home are available by appointment.
3. Follow up your lesson with personalized workouts emailed to you 2 - 3 x per week and include warm-up, stretches and strength & conditioning to fit your individual goals, general fitness or competition.
